Fortune 500 company expanding tool division headquarters

Stanley Black & Decker is adding capacity to support 400 new jobs in Baltimore County to bolster the company’s growing Global Tools & Storage business. The Fortune 500 and S&P 500 company will be investing $8.5 million to build-out new office space at Greenleigh at Crossroads in White Marsh-Middle River.

The expansion will bring Stanley Black & Decker’s total employment in Maryland to approximately 2,700. The company currently employs 1,600 people at their Global Tool and Storage division headquarters in Towson.

“Stanley Black & Decker could have brought these jobs to any place in the United States. This major expansion by a global industrial leader shows their confidence in Baltimore County’s innovation economy and our highly skilled workers,” said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz.

Stanley Black & Decker’s new building will house positions in electrical and electromechanical engineering, digital and brand marketing, industrial design, finance, and human resources. The average annual salary for the new jobs will be $60,000.

“As Stanley Black & Decker continues to grow, we need to continually infuse our business with innovation-minded people who are excited about building the innovations that will change the world tomorrow,” said Jeff Ansell, President of Global Tools & Storage for Stanley Black & Decker. “We continue to find those people right here in Maryland and we are proud to expand our operations in a place that we’ve called home for nearly 110 years. The State of Maryland and the County of Baltimore have been strong partners throughout this expansion process, and are working hard to help our innovative, high-performing company grow in Maryland.”

Stanley Black & Decker’s expansion grows their Baltimore County footprint by 92,000 square feet. The company will lease office space at Greenleigh at Crossroads, a $750 million mixed-use development at Maryland Route 43 and I-95 in White Marsh-Middle River developed by St. John Properties.

The company currently occupies 565,000 square feet of office, research and development, innovation, maker space and training facilities in Towson. Locations include a 31-acre division headquarters campus on East Joppa Road and leased properties in the downtown Towson area.

Baltimore County is providing a $200,000 conditional loan to assist the company with project costs. Support of a resolution related to a Maryland State loan will be discussed at a County Council work session February 13, 2018.
